Carved in Stone – Life on Mars is an event for the London Design Festival, organized by Cosentino , where each of the UK’s leading architectural firms captured their vision of life on Mars in a white marble cube. This project showcases the spectacular design by Cartwright Pickard and ultimately completed by Cuellar Stone .
This design is dubbed “The Abyss” and reflects a new life on Mars, considering the challenges of our past, creating a more stable life and a more conscious civilization.
The concept behind the sculpture explores the idea of dividing a whole to create more possibilities. The internal carving of the sculpture’s faces is inspired by the cells of a tree, which contrasts with the simplicity of the sculpture’s overall form.
The design strives to be as natural as possible (in response to our responsibility to sustainability) on the outside, and hand-carved by Cuellar Stone artisans on the outside.
